School Quality Survey SY 2022-2023

Dear Hokulani Parents & Guardians,

Your feedback about our school is important to us. This year, we respectfully request a few moments of your time to complete the School Quality Survey (SQS), which measures your perceptions of the safety and well-being of your child and your satisfaction and involvement/engagement with your child’s school.

Your responses will be kept confidential in order to gather candid information and will be used by schools for continuous improvement purposes. As a parent/guardian, this is an opportunity for your voice to be heard.

Parents/Guardian should complete one survey per child. You can complete the SQS online or by scanning the QR code. ('Click' the Title of this post to access the letter with the link and QR code).

Please read the survey directions carefully and complete the survey by the deadline of March 10, 2023.

Winter Showcase 2022

Season greetings Hokulani Families! ❄️❄️❄️

We're in the last week before winter break, and the students have been busy recording their Winter Performances.

Due to the pandemic, this will be our first Winter Production since 2019! As we are still very cautious and aware that COVID is still around, we have opted out of an in-person performance and instead will be showcasing our Winter Performance by video - Hokulani's Winter Showcase 2022.

The video will be celebrating the season, but also everything that has happened at school this school year 2022-23.

Apologies for the late post, it's been a crazy week (with it being our Spirit Week and all). But we couldn't let it go unsung - the success of our Halloween Parade 2022 🎃
Thank you to all those that helped make it a 'fang-tastic' success. The rains stay away enough for the children to show case their amazing, I mean terrifying costumes.

Hokulani Elementary is a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School Awardee

Hokulani Elementary is a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School Awardee

Hokulani has again been named as 1 of only 3 schools in Honolulu to have received the National Blue Ribbon Schools Award for 2022. We have previously received this award back in 2005, and 2012. However, with our recent changes and the pandemic, receiving this award this year has an extra special meaning. A huge thank you to everyone that make Hokulani what it is - a place where our ohana are dedicated to building a strong foundation that fosters a love of learning that inspires everyone to reach their highest potential in an ever-changing world!

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona today recognized 297 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2022. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Secretary Cardona made the announcement during his Road to Success Back to School bus tour.

National Blue Ribbon Schools serve as models of effective school practices for state and district educators and other schools throughout the nation. A National Blue Ribbon School flag gracing a school’s entryway or on a flagpole is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning.

Aikāne O Hōkūlani

Hi, my name is Katie and I have sent three kids to Hokulani because it is a great school.
However, schools stay great because of parental involvement. Joining the
Aikāne O Hōkūlani board is the most important way to help the school. It is the FUNDRAISING committee for the school and pays for many things:
1. New classroom desks
2. Hawaiian music program
3. Creative drama teacher
4. Gardens throughout campus
5. Grade 5 Farewell program
6. Assistance with playground costs
7. Assistance with building our new library
8. Assistance with class laptop purchases
9. The Hokulani School website

We are involved in most projects within the school and need your help. We are in search of multiple leadership roles and ad-hoc volunteers to help during special school events. Currently, we have 3 parents and myself and would appreciate any help you can offer.

Federal Impact Aid Survey

The Federal Impact Aid Program Survey is designed to assist local school districts who have lost revenue due to Federal properties exemption from local property taxes.

In Hawai‘i, Federal Impact Aid helps offset costs for school materials and resources, substitute teachers, student transportation, school utilities such as electricity, and other services at schools statewide. All students and schools benefit from Impact Aid.

The Federal Impact Aid Program Survey will be sent home today with your child. Please complete, sign, and return the survey cards to your child's teacher by Friday, September 9, 2022.
